Las Vegas Urban League Hosts Inaugural Power Breakfast to Celebrate Community Partners and Volunteers
Two local companies honored for contributions to the community
Las Vegas, NV (July 23, 2009) – The Las Vegas Urban League (LVCCUL) today held its inaugural “Power Breakfast,” an event designed to bring together the array of individuals, volunteers, staff, corporations and community partners who have supported the LVCCUL in its quest to provide programs and services to the underserved and poor people throughout Southern Nevada. Additionally, the event helped raise funds to support programs ranging from family development to employment and training.
The event was also an opportunity to introduce the newly appointed Interim President and CEO Morse Arberry, Jr. He praised those who have supported the organization.
"Your collaboration with our agency is deeply appreciated,” Arberry told an audience of more than 250 people who attended the event at Bellagio Resort. “With state unemployment at a record high, we believe there is no better time than now to offer these important programs.”
Additionally, awards were presented to two local businesses for their contributions. MGM MIRAGE was presented with the “Most Notable Patron Award” recognizing the company’s long-standing support of the LVCCUL. Newsome Marketing Enterprises received the “Community Service Award” for its dedicated support of the LVCCUL and other community organizations.
The LVCCUL also presented Arberry with a “Community Service Award” for his work as a member of the Nevada State Assembly where he served as Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for 14 years. Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow was presented with the “Community Service Recognition Award” for his support of the organization and work on behalf of the residents in his Ward 5 district.
