The Las Vegas Urban League offers case management services at our main office to address the immediate, basic needs to help clients survive safely from today to tomorrow. That assistance then turns to self-sufficiency with an emphasis on those items that require longer term planning.
Your Urban League starts with a comprehensive assessment to identify the needs and strengths of our clients and then match them up with appropriate resources in the community. While Urban League can assist with some of the most basic needs, the two most requested services are for housing and employment assistance.
Housing Assistance
Concentrating on the urgent needs first to ensure that our clients have a safe place to sleep tonight is our primary focus and then long-term housing needs are addressed. The Urban League can assist in four different areas:
- We work closely with the shelter system for clients that require immediate assistance.
- Transitional houses and halfway houses for ex-offenders and others.
- Low-income housing developments and approvals.
- Standard independent housing resources.
Employment Assistance
The Urban League will also work with clients to break down longer-term goals, such as employment, into smaller steps. Services include:
- Resume assistance.
- Computer literacy courses including word processing and internet training.
- Vocational training for areas that may require more expertise. Case managers can assist in referrals to the appropriate community resource.
Benefits of Working With A Case Manager
There are several advantages to working with a case manager. First, Urban League case managers do this every day and know which resources are currently available and most appropriate for each of our individual clients. Second, certain resources are only available through a referral from a case manager or social worker. Third, clients can utilize the Urban League to brainstorm solutions to new obstacles and information sources if a client encounters a new barrier on their path to self-sufficiency.
